Yeshua, the “face” of the menorah
PARASHAT BEHAALOT’HA (WHEN YOU KINDLE)
BAMIDBAR (NUMBERS) 8:1–12:6
An interesting translation issue came up as I was reading the parasha for this week from the book Bamidbar (Numbers). The second verse of chapter eight in particular stood out to me because of a mistranslation from Hebrew to English of a certain phrase: פְּנֵ֣י הַמְּנוֹרָ֔ה
The verse in the original Hebrew is as follows:
דַּבֵּר֙ אֶֽל־אַהֲרֹ֔ן וְאָמַרְתָּ֖ אֵלָ֑יו בְּהַעֲלֹֽתְךָ֙ אֶת־הַנֵּרֹ֔ת אֶל־מוּל֙ פְּנֵ֣י הַמְּנוֹרָ֔ה יָאִ֖ירוּ שִׁבְעַ֥ת הַנֵּרֽוֹת׃
In the vast majority of English translations I read, the verse is translated as:
Speak to Aaron and say to him, ‘When you mount the lamps, the seven lamps will give light in the front of the lampstand.’
I believe that this verse ought to be translated differently to keep the integrity of the Hebrew intact. It is a much more literal translation, and therefore reads less smoothly in English. Here is my suggested translation:
Speak to Aaron and say to him ‘When you light (elevate, increase) the lamps toward the face of the Menorah (Lampstand), shine the light seven lamps.’
As I read this portion, I pondered the meaning of the various specific elements, which are mentioned here in Hebrew:
- The “Menorah” (lampstand) (הַמְּנוֹרָ֔ה)
- The “Pnei HaMenora” (the face of the lampstand) (פְּנֵ֣י הַמְּנוֹרָ֔ה) *This can be translated in Hebrew two ways; either as “in front of” or “the face of”. I personally believe that the accurate translation here ought to be as the face of the Menorah.
- The “Nerot” (נֵּרֹ֔ת) which are the lamps/lights/candles.
When we put these “pieces” together, I believe we get an amazing prophetic picture, which connects to the way Aaron was instructed to “bring up” the lights (lamps) before the face of the lampstand. God Himself is the Menorah (lampstand); Yeshua is the face of God through which the Father has chosen to shine His light:
In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.
We, His followers, are the lamps through which He chooses to shine His light here on this earth. As Yeshua said,
Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.
I also believe that John refers to this in his vision which he wrote in the Book of Revelation:
And I turned to see the voice that was speaking with me. And having turned I saw seven golden lampstands; and in the middle of the lampstands one like a son of man, clothed in a robe reaching to the feet, and girded across His breast with a golden girdle.
As I continue to study from His Word, I continue to marvel at His Work here on this earth! God is The Light of this world; Yeshua is His face through which He has chosen to shine His light on earth; and, we are the ambassadors that He choose to represent Him!

‘Sexism’ – A new word coined for the 21st c.
“So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.”
“Neither was the man created for the woman; but the woman for the man”- 1 Corinthians 11:9.
“the LORD has created a new thing in the earth, A woman shall compass a man”-Jeremiah31:22.
‘The Father, Son and the Holy Spirit’ does not include a mother or a daughter. And if one believes Yeshua to be God, then God is a Jewish male, on earth as well as resurrected in heaven, with no female counterpart other than his “bride”- the body of the faithful. Of course, the idea of God being our Father is not as depicted by Michelangelo as an old man with a long white beard, for Yeshua told us for our edification and understanding that “God is spirit” and, “a spirit does not have flesh and bones”(John 4:24; Luke 24:39). If God is depicted as Father who is the initiator of all that is, then the matter that He created may be termed as the mother- “mother earth”- for from it He formed all things including the man. But it is written that the woman was created from the man as his helper (ezer k’negdo).
The New Testament therefore describes a spiritual chain of command thus, “But I would have you know that the head of every man is Messiah, and the head of the woman is the man, and the head of Messiah is God” and, “Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife as Messiah is the head of the congregation, His body” (Ephesians 5:22-24). “Therefore as the church is subject to Messiah: so also let the wives be to their husbands in all things” (1 Cor. 14:34). “Let women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted them to speak but to be subject, as also the law saith” and, “Wives, be subject to your husbands, as it behoves in the Lord” (Col. 3:18).
But with the advent of the modern movement which is called Feminism, the above biblical directives have been declared outdated, retrograde, irrelevant, and obsolete as many in both church and synagogue have been swept into a paradigm undreamed of when they were written. Many modernists have taken the scriptures written by the same pen as the above writings, “There is neither male nor female in the Messiah” and applied it well outside its intended context, which speaks of equal access to God for all in the Messiah, now applying roles meant for millennia in the faith for men, and appointed women to those same roles (Galatians 3:28;Colossians 3:11). The same scriptures include “there is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free in Messiah” as well, but then goes on to describe the different roles of men and women, Jews and non-Jews, slave and free.
By very small increments over time women have now become pastors and preachers and leaders of congregations, obliterating such directives as “Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection. But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence. For Adam was first formed, then Eve. And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression” (1 Timothy2). Some modern Messianic congregations, even in Jerusalem, have now invited women to publicly read the Torah in their Shabbat services, reducing the role of men, and the integrity of sound religious tradition.
The Feminism that has affected the world, blurring the distinctions between male and female, turning to a grey sludge of uniformity what is intended as a harmony of differences, has now absorbed into many churches and synagogues, which is a compromise with the world and its ever shifting values. This phenomenon has perhaps come about due to men not taking the responsibility designated them at home and house of worship. When one step is taken in a wrong direction, the next will surely be yet further in the wrong direction, until one finds oneself after time lost in a very shadowy swamp of error (easier to get into than out of). History is dynamic and always changing, therefore it behooves us to stand on the rock of values and principles that are unchanging and permanent, rather than compromising with a churning world in flux and decline.

The coming great world revival from Jerusalem
70 years have now ended since Israel became a nation on 5/14/48. The 71st year officially began on May 9, 2019. God has told us in Ezekiel 36:24, 27 that He would first bring His Jewish people back to their land of Israel, and that then He would pour out His Spirit on them. Is this the time for the major move of God’s Holy Spirit in Israel? God repeats events in patterns.
After 70 years of exile in Babylonian, God said, “I am returning to Jerusalem with Mercy, My House shall be built in it…” Zechariah 1:16 Today God’s true House are His saved Body of believers in Yeshua. Is 2019 the year God has chosen to begin the coming Revival and Great Harvest of souls? ‘You will arise and have Mercy on Zion; for the time to favor her, yes, the set time has come.’ Psalm 102:13
The Welsh Revival, with the outpouring of God’s Spirit, began only after the prayers and fasting of Evan Roberts and a few others.
The Azusa Street Revival also began only after the prayers and fasting of William Seymour and other people. In the same manner, the coming Great Revival in Jerusalem will need the prayers and fasting of many believers. Yeshua’s last words before ascending to Heaven in Acts 1:4, 5, 8 ‘… He commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the Promise of the Father, “which,” He said, “you have heard from Me; 1:5 for John truly baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now. 1:8 But you shall receive Power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, & to the end of the earth.”
The current 300 Messianic Congregations and Churches in Israel are not prepared for the coming great move of God’s Holy Spirit and for the Revival and Great Harvest of souls that is coming soon to Jerusalem and to Israel. God is now giving His Israeli Messianic and Church Body a little more time to prepare.
Many home groups and small groups must be set up and operating.
Have our titles: apostles, prophets, pastors, teachers, evangelists, gifts of healings, gifts of helps, miracles, our work assignments as the One New Man, given to us by our Lord and Savior Yeshua, for the building up Messiah’s Body in love, blinded us and become snares for us to miss our greater callings and God’s best rewards: servanthood, discipleship, being an overcomer, a friend of God, a son of God, and being Messiah’s Bride. In the spirit of every Jewish and Gentile believer is the shed Jewish blood of Yeshua, and this Jewish blood is what made us One New Man! Hebrews 9:14 Yeshua is calling us to be just as He was, One who serves. Therefore we are to be His servants, and servants to each other. Have we missed Yeshua’s command, to just love one another as Messiah Yeshua has loved us? Are we preferring others above ourself? Romans 12:10 Are we really submitting ourself to each other? Ephesians 5:21-33 And do we truly love one another, or are we pretending this love with many, and just doing lip service?
Psalm 133:1 Behold, how good & how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity! 133:3 It is like the dew of Hermon, descending upon the mountains of Zion; for there the LORD commanded the blessing, Life forevermore! a Psalm of David
God is calling us into a much higher standard, Oneness and love with each other, which our Great High Priest Yeshua prayed over us in John 17:21-23, just before He gave His life for ours, that the world may know His Father had sent Yeshua His Son to be Savior of the world. This Oneness is the only real behavior that God will work in each one of us through His Blood.
Why do we continue to pray the Aaronic Benediction, when we are not in the Aaronic priesthood, and when Yeshua has given us His Great High Priestly blessing, John 17’s Melchi Zedek prayer to pray over each other?
The future location for Great Revival and Great Harvest of souls.
The Great Revival by God’s Holy Spirit will soon begin in Jerusalem and spread throughout Israel and then out to the nations, bringing in the last Great World Revival and Great Harvest of souls. Ezekiel 39:29 It’s location was prophesied in Jeremiah 31:
Jeremiah 31:40 “And the whole Valley of the dead bodies and of the ashes, (the ben Hinnom Valley) and all the fields as far as the Brook Kidron, to the corner of the Horse Gate toward the east, shall be Holy to the LORD. It shall not be plucked up or thrown down anymore forever.” This is close to Jerusalem’s Jaffa Gate.
In June of 1999 I was given two visions of this Great Outpouring.
On Wednesday June 16th, 1999, while I was high in worship at Mount Zion Fellowship (then Ruth Heflin’s ministry) located in north Jerusalem in the Arab neighborhood of Sheikh Jarrah, and God suddenly showed me two quick visions in rapid succession, the second vision came only moments apart from the first. I saw a great outpouring of God’s Holy Spirit falling on many people who were gathered together in the ben Hinnom Valley and in the hills surrounding this Valley near the Old City of Jerusalem. The general location for this great Outpouring of God’s Holy Spirit is the area just below Jerusalem’s Mount Zion Hotel near Jaffa Gate!
In both visions I could see many people with their hands raised up in the air to receive the blessing of God’s Spirit falling on them from Heaven. Because these two visions came simultaneously, and so rapidly, I knew that this was not coming from my own mind, or from my own imagination, but that both of these visions were really coming from God. It was like I was looking at these two visions out through God’s eyes, at what He saw coming. I never thought about the Hinnom Valley before, in any way whatsoever.
The first vision was shown to me from a position of about 40 feet in the air above Mount Zion hotel, and just to its left or north of the hotel. In the second vision, given to me only moments after the first vision, I was shown this same scene, and again from about the same height in the air, but now from a very different location. It was shown to me from about 200 yards to the south east, also looking out over the ben Hinnom Valley.
When will this Great Revival come? I believe it may come this year, after the coming Gog Magog War. Amazingly, never before in world history have all the nations mentioned in Ezekiel 38-39 are now aligned together, perhaps just waiting for War to happen against Israel. This alignment has never happened before in world history. These Ezekiel 38-39 enemy nations desperately need the spoils Israel now has, especially the vast oil and vast gas reserves which have only in recent years been discovered in Israel [Watch JD Farag, Middle East Prophesy Update, 1/6/ 2019]
God alone has allowed this alignment, according to His Word.
What might catalyst this Gog Magog Ezekiel 38 War to begin? The Iranian Government is extremely angry with Israel. For many Sunni Arab nations, especially Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan, Oman and other Arab nations have been negotiating with Israel’s Prime Minister Netanyahu, regarding both forming a Palestinian State on Israeli soil & also joining with them against Iran. Iran has been shamed and disgraced before many of their Arab neighbors. And Iran has vowed repeated to destroy Israel and the United States.
God alone is the One who decides when this War will begin!
In Jeremiah 49:34-38, the LORD says that He will break the bow of Elam (Iran), and also send the sword against Elam.
Prime Minister Netanyahu had sent jets to do this in 2014, and was stopped. Will he soon attempt this again, and succeed?
[Arutz Sheva 7 Israel National News, January 3, 2015, by Mark Langfan … ‘Obama Threatened to Shoot Down I.A.F. Iran Strike’ The Bethlehem-based news agency Ma’an had cited Kawaiti newspaper report Saturday, that US President Barack Obama thwarted an Israeli military attack against Iran’s nuclear facilities in 2014, by threatening to shoot down Israeli jets before they could reach their targets in Iran. Following Obama’s threat, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu was reportedly forced to abort the planned Iran attack.]
2 Thessalonians 2:2: not to be soon shaken in mind or troubled … as though the Day of Christ had come. 2:3 Let no one deceive you by any means; for that Day will not come unless the falling away comes first, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition … 2:7 For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only He who now restrains will do so until he is taken out of the way. 2:8 And then the lawless one (anti Christ) will be revealed …
Many associate this Scripture with pre bridal tribulation rapture.
Here’s another explanation. What if the Restrainer, the Holy Spirit was specifically working thru President Donald Trump, using him as a restrainer in the Middle East for Israel and Iran, and a restrainer in the United States. Did Trump’s declaration on May 31, 2019 for U. S. ‘gay rights’ cause him to loose his restraining position?
In the Gog Magog War, the United States is never mentioned.
If a military War, such as the Ezekiel 38, 39 Gog Magog War happens suddenly, Scriptures also show that no other nation will be there to help Israel. God alone will bring Israel to Himself by sovereignly winning this War and saving His Israeli Jewish people, and also the Israeli Arabs. This will show the Israeli Jews that their God has always been there for them, and that He has never left them. So are things about to change drastically, and very soon, with a major War here in Israel, and trouble in the United States?
I believe so, but only time will tell. Perhaps we will know the answer soon, and before the next Israeli election of Sept 17, 2019.
Remember, P. M. Netanyahu is still in full Governmental power.
If the Ezekiel 38–39 Gog Magog War comes suddenly to Israel, then the immediate new focus at the end of this War will shift from Islam to the Orthodox religious Jews, who will then quickly have come into great political power, and will be putting up their house on Mount Zion hill. For God will have sovereignly destroyed from heaven both Russia’s and also all of the Islamic armies. The whole world, especially the Muslims, will witness Allah being defeated by the God of Israel. Many Arab Christian Congregatons in Israel who are now mainly into replacement theology, will have seen the God of Israel save His Israeli Jewish people and also save them, and their attitudes towards Israel will drastically change. Also the Muslim agendas will no longer carry the strong political power in Israel. Multitudes of Muslims will quickly leave Allah and Islam and come to Jesus, the God of the Christians. The Muslim harvest of souls in Israel coming to Jesus will be tremendous overnight.
If Israel first takes out the Iran’s nuclear facilities, then because of many war covenant pacts between Russia and Iran, any attack on Iran would cause this war, and be the hooks in the jaws of Gog (Ezekiel 38:4) which God would use as the catalyst to bring about this Bible prophesied Ezekiel 38-39 War, especially in God’s perfect will and also in God’s perfect timing.
Why is Iran, the first nation mentioned coming with Gog in this Gog Magog War, but coming just as foot soldiers? Ezekiel 38:5
If Iran still had nuclear power they would have annihilated Israel. Is this because Israel may have launched the pre-emptive strikes, and had suddenly taken out all of Iran’s nuclear power facilities?
Ezekiel 38:2 “Son of man, set your face against Gog, of the land of Magog, the prince of Rosh, Meshech, and Tubal, and prophesy against him, 38:3 and say, ‘Thus says the Lord GOD, “Behold, I am against you, O Gog, the prince of Rosh, Meshech, and Tubal. 38:4 I will turn you around, put hooks into your jaws, and lead you out, with all your army, horses, and horsemen, all splendidly clothed, a great company with bucklers and shields, all of them handling swords. 38:5 Persia (first nation mentioned), Ethiopia, and Libya are with them, all of them with shield and helmet;” ’ ”
Are nuclear weapons used in this War? Perhaps Isaiah 17:1, Damascus being a ruinous heap could be a nuclear explosion?
How do we know that the War will not be the Psalm 83 War? Because some of the Arab nations mentioned in Psalm 83, and especially Saudi Arabia, are now in relations with Israel, and encouraging Israel to take out the Iranian nuclear facilities.
But other nations listed in Psalm 83 may join Russia and Iran in this Ezekiel 38-39 War. For Ezekiel 38:6 says that many people will also be coming with those Ezekiel 38 nations mentioned.
Isaiah 17:4 says after this War Israel will grow lean. Isaiah 17:7 says in that Day a man will look to his Maker, and his eyes will have respect for the Holy One of Israel. Also Ezekiel 39:9 tells us that after this Ezekiel 38 – 39 War there will be seven years of burning weapons, possibly for fuel. Could that begin the time of Daniel’s 70th Week, the last 7 years before Lord Yeshua returns to earth and sets up His Millennial Kingdom?
When the God of Israel sovereignly wins this coming War, then unsaved secular Israeli Jews, in gratitude to God for saving their lives, will do something, I believe, which they have never done before, they will give their support to the Israeli Orthodox religious Jews, who will very quickly gain great political power in Israel. With this newly gained political power the Israeli religious Jews will then strongly persecute those Jews in the Messianic Congregations and Christian Chuches in Israel whom they think believe in other gods, and specifically in our Lord Yeshua.
The real sad fact is that it is they, the Israeli Orthodox religious Jews who have left the Word of God of the Tanakh, and have fully followed their non biblical Oral Law. Thus they cannot see, or perhaps even refuse to see Yeshua as their Messiah and Savior, found in over 200 places in the Hebrew Holy Scriptures.
It clearly says that at the end of this Ezekiel 38-39 War, in Ezekiel 39:25-28 and 39:29, that two major events will then happen. First the Jewish people will return to Israel. For the great world Aliyah will be taking place. Jews will suddenly be fleeing from both the terrible persecutions that will be coming against them, especially in America, but also from God’s Judgments which will have begun in America. They will flee without any identity papers; for they had not prepared to suddenly leave the United States and come to Israel. For the hunters will have been released against the over 6 million Jewish people. (Jeremiah 16:16)
With persecutions coming to Israel from Israeli Orthodox Jews, who know where all the 300 or more Messianic Congregations and Churches are located in the land, this will change the structure of the Messianic Congregations and Church Body in Israel, creating overnight many more home groups and small groups.
I believe we may soon see the following scenario, which will cause the great Outpouring of God’s Holy Spirit of Love, bringing God’s Greatest World Revival, with the salvation of multitudes of souls, with great signs, wonders, and miracles. This mighty move of God’s Love will begin from Jerusalem over the ben Hinnom Valley and perhaps also in other places in Israel, such as in the Galilee. This move may last a few years, going out world wide.
Yeshua commanded us to love one another as He has loved us. (John 13:44) Will God use the Israeli Jewish Orthodox religious persecutions to help force His Messianic Body in the land into this divine Oneness with each other He prophesied in John 17:21-23, by the Power of His Blood with the Holy Spirit within our spirit?
The soon to be appointed Sanhedrin’s Aaronic priesthood will then be functioning in their Temple and be offering animal sacrifices on Mt Moriah (Mount Zion) hill. However they do not know who really are the sons of Zadok, the only Aaronic priests that God said He would allow to offer animal sacrifices in His Temple. See Ezekiel 43:18, 19 and Ezekiel 44:15, 16
This Zadokite blood was part of Yeshua’s own Blood Sacrifice! All this being said … remember that harvest time is always Now! “For now is the Day of Salvation!”
Yes, the Great Jerusalem and Israeli Harvest is coming soon, but we should also remember the Words of Yeshua …
John 4:35 “Do you not say, ‘There are still four months and then comes the harvest’? Behold, I say to you, lift up your eyes and look at the fields, for they are already white for harvest!’ ”
“And it shall come to pass that whoever calls on the name of the Lord (Yeshua) shall be saved. For in Mount Zion and in Jerusalem there shall be deliverance, as the LORD has said, among the remnant whom the LORD calls.” Joel 2:32 (and Romans 10:13)

Mystery of the God Messiah
A Jewish Perspective on the Dual Nature of the Messiah
Part 2 of David’s Greater Son – A Jewish Perspective on the Dual Nature of the Messiah
Last time we saw that the Messiah was first understood as being David’s Greater Son who would restore the Kingdom to Israel (Acts 1: 6). Then we saw how Isaiah prophesied that the Messiah’s kingdom would extend throughout the whole earth, on a higher spiritual level.
Over the past hundred years, the Chassidic stream of orthodox Judaism has developed an understanding of their chief rabbi (called “rebbe”) as a messianic figure with supernatural anointing. The rebbe is more than just a rabbinical leader. He is a Tsaddik – such a holy and righteous man, that some of his holiness and righteousness gets imparted to his followers who associate and identify with him. He is seen as a kind of ladder connecting man and God.
In some of the literature from the Lubavitch movement, Rebbe Schneerson was purported to have the anointing of Isaiah 11:2, and therefore he was more than a mere mortal man. In the Breslev movement they claim that there is redemptive and supernatural power in reciting their rebbe’s name, Nachman, over and over in a mantra-like phrase “Na Nach Nachman Meuman”.
The Lubavitch and Breslev movements see their rebbes as descendants of King David and therefore as the Messiah B’cheskah. This refers to someone in the position of the Messiah; who is potentially the Messiah; the Messiah in formative stage. (The Lubavitch movement went so far as to say that Isaiah 53 was referring to their rebbe when he was sick before he died.)
So the idea that the messiah is David’s son, yet more than David’s son, is not strange to the Jewish world, neither in the prophets, nor even in some streams of rabbinic Judaism. This is what Yeshua referred to when He said, “How can the Messiah be both David’s son and David’s Lord?” (Matthew 22:42-45; Luke 20:41-44). This tension between the Messiah being a man, yet more than a man – David’s son yet more than David’s son – is a dramatic challenge that is left unsolved at the end of the period of the Law and the Prophets.
The Heavenly Man
Isaiah’s vision of the Messiah was a major step forward in prophetic revelation from David’s kingdom. The understanding of the Messiah in the New Covenant is another leap forward in the same prophetic stream. Here the fullness of the messiah’s supernatural and divine nature comes to light.
Interestingly enough the New Covenant revelation of the divine nature of the messiah is explained by pointing us back to a figure in the Law and the Prophets – not King David, but the figure known as the “Angel of the Lord.” Here are some examples:
- In Genesis 18 a heavenly man visits Abraham and is referred to on the one hand as an angel from God, and on the other hand as YHVH Himself.
- In Genesis 32 the angel who wrestles all night with Jacob is referred to as both man and God (El Shaddai).
- In Exodus 3 the figure inside the burning bush who talks to Moses is called an angel but also YHVH God Himself.
- In Exodus 14 the same God/Angel appears inside the pillar of fire and cloud, and leads the children of Israel through the Red Sea and through their wanderings in the desert.
- In Exodus 24 Moses and Aaron, along with seventy elders of Israel, see the God of Israel in the form of a man on the mountain and eat with him.
- In Joshua 5, the same figure who is in the burning bush meets Joshua before the battle of Jericho. He is called the captain of the angelic armies of God, yet Joshua bows down and worships him, taking off his shoes as Moses did at the burning bush.
- In the Ezekiel 1 vision, at the top of the glory fire is a throne with a “Man” sitting on it. Again, this is a revelation of God appearing to mankind in the form of a man.
- In Zechariah 2 – 3 this angel of the Lord appears standing before Joshua the high priest. In chapter 2 verse 10 he says that he is YHVH, and in verse 11 he says that YHVH has sent him.
- In Daniel 7 this divine Messiah is brought before the throne of the Ancient of Days. He is given eternal authority over all the nations, and those nations worship Him.
- In Daniel 10 the divine angel of the Lord appears in lightening and fire and tells Daniel what will happen in the end times.
Note: The Hebrew form in the phrase “the Angel of the Lord” is called s’michut. In this grammatical structure two nouns are placed together, somewhat like in the English words “book-end” or “camp-fire”. It literally says Angel-YHVH. The words “the” and “of” do not appear in the original. This can mean either “an angel coming from the Lord” or simply “Jehovah Angel.”
The Mystery of Messiah
How can this figure be both a messenger from God and at the same time referred to as YHVH himself? This mystery certainly plagued the rabbis. Their opinions were split. The Talmud (Tractate Shavu’ot 35:72) says that the name of these figures was Kodesh (holy), meaning they were divine. On the other hand, the Midrash according to Rashi says that they were all Chol (not holy), meaning they were mere men or angels. This mystery is not solved in the Law or the Prophets, nor in rabbinic writings.
The New Covenant begins in Matthew describing Yeshua as the son of David. It endsin Revelation describing Yeshua as the divine angel of the Lord (Revelation 1:8, 11-17). This description of Yeshua is virtually identical with the description of the YHVH angel in Daniel 10.
Yeshua is the divine angel of the Lord who appeared to all of our forefathers. We react to the divinity of Yeshua the Messiah in the same way that our patriarchs and prophets reacted to the divinity of the Angel YHVH. Our forefathers worshiped Him and cut covenant with Him. He is both an emissary from God and an epiphany of God.
Two thousand years ago, that divine angel was born in the midst of men as David’s son, circumcised on the eighth day. In that way the prophecy of the miraculous birth of Immanuel (God with us) from Isaiah 7:14 was fulfilled.
The full revelation of the Messiah combines two different images from the Hebrew Law and Prophets: Davidic King and Divine Angel. (In Hebrew, “king” is melech; and “angel” is malach. Yeshua is both “melech” and “malach.”) The key word in this dynamic tension is “both.”
So God first gave a basic kingdom government to David. Then through Isaiah, God prophesied additional, spiritual dimensions for that kingdom and its king; David’s greater son.
Many of the mysteries of the Bible are resolved by understanding that God puts together two things that are different, seemingly contradictory: marriage of husband and wife (Genesis 2, Ephesians 5), reconciliation between Israel and the Church (Ezekiel 37, Romans 11), giving to Caesar what is Caesar’s and to God what is God’s (Matthew 22:21), the uniting of heaven and earth (Genesis 1, Ephesians 1:10).
In the case of Messiah Yeshua, we have the great mystery (I Timothy 3:16) of the human and the divine coming together. Genesis 1:26-28 states that man was created to be the image and likeness of God. Only in Yeshua do we see man coming fully into the image of God, and God coming fully into the likeness of man.

You might not feel like a VIP, but you are. If you are in communication with God, you have access, through his Spirit, to all areas. And I mean, ALL areas.
There’s this brilliant story in the Bible where the King of Aram keeps getting scuppered in all his plans to overcome Israel. He gets very frustrated. He’s sure there must be a spy in their midst, and demands to know who it is. Here’s what was actually happening:
“Now the king of Aram was at war with Israel. After conferring with his officers, he said, “I will set up my camp in such and such a place.”
The man of God sent word to the king of Israel: “Beware of passing that place, because the Arameans are going down there.” So the king of Israel checked on the place indicated by the man of God.
Time and again Elisha warned the king, so that he was on his guard in such places. This enraged the king of Aram. He summoned his officers and demanded of them, “Tell me! Which of us is on the side of the king of Israel?”
“None of us, my lord the king,” said one of his officers, “but Elisha, the prophet who is in Israel, tells the king of Israel the very words you speak in your bedroom.”” (2 Kings 6:8-12)
Elisha, the prophet and man of God, was getting tipped off by the Almighty, who could see everything, everywhere, because he was everywhere, filling everything. Where can you go from God’s Spirit? Nowhere. There is no escape, As Jonah found to his great angst. God was even there to care for him in the belly of a whale in the depths of the deep.
God sees all, knows all, and hears every word spoken in every private chamber. He is the ultimate super spy.
Traversing walls again
It didn’t stop with the King of Aram. The Messiah went on to cause quite the furore in the New Testament. Ostensibly dead and buried, he appeared, uninvited, in a private, locked room.
“While they were still talking about this, Jesus himself stood among them and said to them, “Peace be with you.”
They were startled and frightened, thinking they saw a ghost. He said to them, “Why are you troubled, and why do doubts rise in your minds? Look at my hands and my feet. It is I myself! Touch me and see; a ghost does not have flesh and bones, as you see I have.”
When he had said this, he showed them his hands and feet. And while they still did not believe it because of joy and amazement, he asked them, “Do you have anything here to eat?” They gave him a piece of broiled fish.” (Luke 24:36-42)
The disciples thought Jesus was a ghost – a wafty, flimsy spirit. Less real than them. But, as my friend Kalevi said, when a knife goes through butter, which is the more solid of the two? The thing that is passed through, or the thing that is passing through it? Jesus is far more real and solid than the atoms of the earthly walls that one might foolishly think to be impenetrable.
Our God goes through walls.
He is not stopped by any border, wall or division. He does not need permission to march into the rooms – or even the minds – of leaders, kings and rulers. Their hearts are like water in his hands.
God does not need to tap telephones or install CCTV to know what’s going on in top level meetings. He does not need special pass to enter the Oval Office. He’s just there, all the time. He is not just a VIP, he is the MIP – the Most Important Person, with access to all areas.
But here’s the crazy thing: we have the ear of this MIP.
The ultimate VIP pass
People all across the Middle East are experiencing Jesus showing up in their homes. Villagers in Jordan, housewives in Iran, a Palestinian judge of Shari’a law… Jesus appears to them, right in their rooms. An Arab pastor happened to be actually on the phone to the guy in the West Bank while he was seeing this remarkable sight.
“Tell Jesus not to move!” Pleaded the pastor, “I’m coming over!” But when he arrived, the lounge was back to normal. The Shari’a judge, however, did not return to normal. He, like countless others, has been forever changed by his encounter with the risen Jesus.
Omnipresent and omnipotent, God can work wonders anywhere, any time, with anyone.
We can ask him to act. We can ask him to move in the highest echelons of society, or indeed the lowest. He can be in the Queen’s chambers in Buckingham Palace, or a corrugated iron shack in a Brazilian favela. He can sit among the students in the strictest yeshiva in Jerusalem, and he can meet Muslims in the Dome of the Rock on the Temple Mount. He can go into cabinet meetings in the Knesset, or march right into the Hamas headquarters in Gaza.
Moreover, like Elisha, we can ask God for his insight into what is really going on behind the scenes. Truth is getting harder and harder to discern, but God sees it all. He knows who said what, who did what, and what is going on in the hearts and minds of leaders around the world. He also knows what is coming next. We need to keep our ears trained to the throne and our eyes fixed on our Master, ready to perceive his movements and act in line with his will.
Don’t neglect this extraordinary treasure you have in your possession: your two-way VIP prayer pass. All authority has been given to Jesus, and he has invited us to enter the very throne room of God.
“If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples.” (John 15:7-8)
